Bella Ruth Packman, November 7, 2023 in Springfield, VT
Beloved wife of the late Jerrold “Jerry” Packman. Dear mother of Aaron (Jennifer) Packman and David (Bevin) Packman. Loving grandmother of Diella Packman, Ariel Packman, and Rona Packman. Dear sister of Chava (Yoel) Nesson and sister-in-law to Marlene Switzer (late George). Beloved daughter of the late Monie and Elka (née Netel) Sper. Dear aunt, cousin and friend.
Bella was born on August 18, 1942 in what is now Petrovsk, Russia while her family was hiding from the Nazis. When the war ended, they moved to a displacement camp in Hallein, Austria until it was discovered her father was alive in Bamberg, Germany. Bella and her family moved to different displacement camps around Germany until 1951 when her father decided they would immigrate to the United States. At the end of November 1951, Bella and her family had arrived in St. Louis.
In June of 1964, Bella married her beloved Jerry Packman. Both she and Jerry worked tirelessly for their entire careers as civil servants for the State of Missouri.
Bella had a love of gardening, volunteering, and playing mahjong. After retirement, you could find Bella every Tuesday working at the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, every Wednesday playing Mahjong with friends, and every weekend as an usher for the Fox Theater. Bella enjoyed traveling, often visiting her family in Israel, as well as China, Turkey, New Zealand and more. If you couldn’t find Bella participating in one of her beloved activities, she was making matzo ball soup and playing Uno with her family.
On July 11, 2021 Bella moved with her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter to Springfield, Vermont. When she moved she still played mahjong with friends every Wednesday and always talked about how beautiful the state of Vermont was.
