Barry R. Schactman

Barry R. Schactman, Professor Emeritus of Drawing and Painting at Washington University, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends, Friday, July 3, 2015, after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease. Barry was born in 1930, in Newark, New Jersey to Joseph and Ann Schactman. Barry survived the death of his dear wife Phyllis in 1985 and his son Joseph in 2000. After retiring, he remained in St Louis, and devoted his time to his work. Barry is survived by his beloved daughter Amy Schactman, his sister Rhoda Bartels, his granddaughter Lilly O’Donnell, and his loving and devoted wife, Ana Grace Schactman. His family is grateful for the loving care given to Barry by Helene Frankel, Bethany Miller, Rajmonda Mehmetaj, and Glenda Moore. They are also grateful for the compassion of the members of SSM Hospice Care Services. A short service was held at Gerber Chapel in Webster Groves, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. with burial immediately following at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. A memorial for Barry Schactman will be planned for a later date. May he rest in Peace. Contributions to The Alzheimer’s Association or Doctors without Borders.
