Barney (Buddy) Deutch

Barney (Buddy) Deutch, 91, of Springfield, died at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Regency Nursing Center. Buddy was born on August 3, 1920 in St. Louis, the son of Abraham and Jennie Deutch. He married Helen Krasner on December 29th 1946 and she preceded him in death July 13, 2007. He is survived by his two daughters Rita (Perry) Singer of Chatham and Karen (Robert) Barbour of Ft. Collins, CO, and dear brother Edward (Diane) Deutch of St. Louis; grandchildren Matt (Alicia) Singer of Highland Park, Il, Stacy Singer of Chicago, Il, Lisa (Tom) Chandler of Ft. Collins, CO, and Kelly Barbour (Bill Martin) of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are great grandchildren Madeline and Annabelle Singer, Lila and Rory Chandler, Liam Barbour Martin and several nieces and nephews. During WWII, Buddy worked for the Navy in Pearl Harbor and, when he returned to St. Louis, he worked as an insurance salesman. He later owned a newspaper distributorship. During the 1930’s and 1940’s he was named one of the outstanding softball pitchers in St. Louis and for his entire life was an avid Cardinal fan. While in Springfield, he was a member of Temple Brith Sholom and volunteered weekly at Memorial Home Services. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 5th, at 12:30 PM at Temple Brith Sholom, South 4th Street in Springfield. Memorials may be made to Temple Brith Sholom or the Springfield Jewish Federation.
