Audrey Bonnett Shatz, died July 12, 2015 from complications following a recent stroke. Born Audrey Bonnett, a native and lifelong resident of St. Louis, Audrey attended Washington University School of Fine Arts. Her education was interrupted during World War II when she worked for the Curtiss-Wright Corporation designing structural parts for military aircraft. After marrying the late Burton Shatz, her husband for 61 years, she became the very loving and devoted mother of 3 children. She then returned to her artistic calling, first as a painter and portrait artist, but eventually, and for 40 years, as an interior designer. She had a very keen eye for antique and contemporary furniture. Her talents were employed in many St. Louis homes and businesses. She was a member of The American Institute of Design until her retirement in 2008. She shared her husband’s passion for studio art glass, both as a collector and benefactor. She was a skilled and passionate homemaker known for her dinner and dessert recipes. It seems she was always baking cookies for the Ronald McDonalds house. She was most proud of being the matriarch of her family including her daughter Amy Sudarsky, her sons Richard Shatz and Gerald Shatz, her 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held.
