Arthur Rudin, died December 19, 2012, 91 years old. Beloved husband for 64 years of Evelyn Rudin; dear father and father-in-law of Barbara (Doron) Berger and Kerry Rudin; dear grandfather of Andrea (Steven) Rosenblum, Craig Berger and Brett (Alison) Berger, Jennifer Rudin and Erik Rudin; dear great-grandfather of Myles, Spencer and Henry Rosenblum, Jack and Eve Berger; dear son of the late Max and the late Frieda Rudin; dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Beatrice (the late Herbert) Goldberg, the late Robert (the late Jean) Rudin, the late Esther (the late Manny) Kahn and the late Rosalie (the late Manny) Paull; dear brother-in-law of Florence (the late Philip) Kootman, Floyd (the late Arlene) Emert, Betty (Paul) Seligsohn and Harvey (Gail) Emert. Our dear uncle, cousin and friend. Professionally, Arthur went into business with his wife, Evelyn, in 1954. Together they opened their first women’s clothing store in downtown Maplewood. That store (Arthur’s) eventually grew to become twelve stores in malls in and around the St. Louis area and became one of the largest independently owned women’s clothiers in Missouri. Womens’ purchases followed their life cycle events. First, prom dresses were bought. Then that woman would buy a suit for her first job interview, then the trousseau for her honeymoon, and so on. Multiple generations within the same families shopped at Arthur’s. In 1994, as was the trend with local businesses, the last of the stores closed. Over the years, Arthur had quietly given away whatever was needed to whomever needed it. Whether it was the city that needed a donation or a little boy that wanted to surprise his mother with a gift, and the few coins he had in his pocket were exactly the right amount, Arthur never said no. If anyone needed work, there was always a position available. Arthur served in WWII. Started as a private and finished as a Sargent. Stationed in India, his only mention was of the poverty of the people and how terrible it was. Arthur was an avid gardener and artist. He thought nothing of surprising a widow with the purchase and planting of 100s of flowers, and his paintings were happily given and hung in many St. Louis homes. Arthur graduated from Ritenour High School in 1938.  Mr. Rudin was an Army veteran of World War II and was the founder of Arthur’s Fashion Stores.
