Alyn V. Essman

Alyn V. Essman, August 27, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Marlyn Essman; dear father and father-in-law of Sharyn Essman and Judy (Todd) Taylor; dear grandfather of Bennett and Isabelle Essman, Aliyah, Joshua and Jordan Taylor and Jannis Topfer; dear brother and brother-in-law of Norman (Alexis) Essman; dear brother-in-law of Priscilla Ayers; our dear uncle, cousin, friend and mentor. When Alyn Essman joined Rembrandt Studios as Controller in 1956, his focus was on building a career with a growing business. Through his 44 years with the company, as it evolved into Fact Photo, Chromalloy Photographic, and finally CPI Corporation, he discovered not only his remarkable aptitude for financial analysis but also a passion for empowering others. He spent his entire career helping to develop people, and after retiring in 2001 he took his teaching in a new direction. He built a reputation as a respected educator and student with Washington University’s Lifelong Learning Institute, studying and teaching literature, music, economics, and philosophy. He was a devoted advocate for City Academy, Lift for Life Academy, Webster University, and the St. Louis Science Center. Most of all, he derived immense joy from teaching his children and grandchildren to value education, family, and community. His life lessons are his legacy. Visitation Monday, August 29th, 12:00 PM at Congregation Shaare Emeth 11645 Ladue Road at Ballas, followed by funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment Chevra Kadisha Cemetery. Memorial contributions preferred to City Academy (4175 N. Kingshighway Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63115), Congregation Shaare Emeth or the charity of your choice.
