Allen S. Sabol

Allen S. Sabol, died August 1, 2014 after a long life. Born January 26, 1922 into a family of five boys and raised in St. Louis, he volunteered for flight duty in World War II.  At the age of 22, he found himself aboard a B-24 that was shot down over enemy territory. He spent the next several months in prison camps and on harrowing winter marches with little food or warm clothing. He was freed by British soldiers as the war concluded in 1945. Two years later he married Ruth Frankel and they were married until her death in 1992. During and after a career at Famous-Barr, he was an active volunteer in University City and at his synagogue.  He leaves two children, Leslie (Mimi) Sabol and Laurie (Allen Camara) Sabol and two grandchildren, Benjamin Sabol and Samantha Sabol and his special friend, Beverly Stuhlman. Burial was on Sunday, August 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 7500 Olive Blvd. Donations can be made to the St. Louis Kollel or to Nusach Hari B’nai Zion.
