Alan Stanford Hendin

Alan Stanford Hendin, died August 13, 2013 at his Santa Cruz home at age 74. Born June 11, 1939 in St. Louis, Mo.; son of Harry and Anne (Sokolik) Hendin. He grew up in St. Louis and attended elementary schools in University City and later Clayton where he graduated from high school. He attended Harvard College as a National Merit Scholar earning a Bachelor of Science degree with honors. He attended Washington University Medical School where he earned his medical degree and served his internship and residency at Washington University/Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He completed further medical training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York City. He worked for the Epidemiology Intelligence Service of the U.S. Public Health Service in Little Rock, Ark., and later moved to San Francisco where he received his fellowship and was an Assistant Professor in Radiology at UC San Francisco Medical Center. In the mid 1970s he moved to santa Cruz and became a member of Radiology Medical Group (RMG). He was a member of Temple Beth El. He is survived by his wife, Vicki (Gerstein) Hendin, two sons, Benjamin Nathan Hendin, M.D. and his wife, Lauren Toranto Hendin of Houston, Tex. and Jonathan Daniel Hendin and his wife, Victoria Haynes of Brooklyn, N.Y. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Alexander Louis Hendin, Brianna Gabrielle Hendin and Sadie Josephine Hendin.
