Alan Elfanbaum

Alan Elfanbaum, died October 13, 2013 at age 78. He was an Executive Vice President of Siebold, Sydow and Elfanbaum, structural Engineer for over 20 years, A native of St. Louis, Mr. Elfanbaum graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Washington University in 1956 and was a Consulting Engineer for over 40 years. Mr. Elfanbaum worked with many of the Top Architectural firms in the city of St. Louis providing structural design services for commercial buildings, hospitals, universities and hundreds of public schools throughout the Metropolitan St. Louis area. Mr. Elfanbaum was interested in mentoring programs for engineers and held seminars for Washington University civil engineering students and for Russian structural engineers who had recently immigrated to the United States. Since his retirement in 1998, Mr. Elfanbaum was active as an advocate for the Environment. He was a founding member of the St. Louis Jewish Environmental Initiative. In 2010, Mr. Elfanbaum was awarded the Alfred Kahn Shomrei Adamah Award for his leadership on environmental issues in the Jewish Community. He helped develop programming for the Rabbi Jacobs Adult Institute Teachers workshops and educational material for Hebrew schools with the theme “Connecting to God, each other, and the Earth.” He was also head of the Environmental Action Chesed Committee at Traditional Congregation of St. Louis and helped initiate many recycling programs and educational activities for children and adults. Among survivors are his wife, Lois Elfanbaum, his sister, Rita Stark, children, Robert Elfanbaum, David Elfanbaum, Steven Elfanbaum, and Tamara Schultz. Also, his grandchildren Jennifer Elfanbaum, Madelyn Elfanbaum, Alexa Elfanbaum, Daniel Elfanbaum, Joseph Elfanbaum, Samuel Elfanbaum, Sage Elfanbaum, Maya Elfanbaum, Aaron Schultz, and Brian Schultz. Graveside service Tuesday, October 15, 12:30p.m., at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Rd.
