Adrienne Cohen Yawitz

Adrienne Cohen Yawitz, died July 1, 2015. Daughter of the late Maurice Stern Cohen and Geraldine Kaufman Cohen; born September 21, 1920, attended school in Clayton, and graduated from Soldan High School in January, 1938. On January 23, 1943, she married Air Corps Captain Joseph Jay Yawitz, Jr. at Hotel Chase in St. Louis. Captain (later Lieut. Colonel) and Mrs. Yawitz attended various Army Air Force installations until his discharge in January 1946, when they returned to make their home in St. Louis. Mrs. Yawitz was the lead Soprano in the choir at the Holy Communion Episcopal Church in University City for 10 years, during which time she also sang in the choir at Congregation Temple Israel and in the Opera Workshop at Washington University. She also kept busy as a wife, a mother to two active children, and as an active Real Estate Salesperson. In addition, she found time to be a member (and Vice-President) of Miriam Lodge 17, U.O.T.S., The Jewish Hospital Auxiliary, and many other organizations. When Mr. and Mrs. Yawitz retired in 1973, they built a villa on the Spanish island of Mallorca. They also had a home on Longboat Key, Florida where they were members of The Longboat Key Golf and Tennis Club for many years. Mrs. Yawitz’s husband Joseph, died in 1999. Her brother, Roy M. Adreon, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Ellen. Lowdermilk of Winston-Salem, NC; her son, Michael of Sarasota, FL; her son-in-law Dr. Tad W. Lowdermilk and grandchildren Leslie Singleton and Jamey, Tad II. and Ariel Lowdermilk. Funeral service Friday, July 10th, 11:30 AM at the New Mt. Sinai Mausoleum, 8430 Gravois, St. Louis, Mo. 63123.
