Dr. Jeffrey Gordon was awarded the 2024 Nierenberg Prize for Science in the Public Interest by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.
This prize recognizes outstanding contributions to science in the public interest. Gordon is the Dr. Robert J. Glaser Distinguished University Professor at Washington University School of Medicine and the director of the Edison Family Center for Genome Sciences & Systems Biology at WashU Medicine.
He has been credited with founding the field of gut microbiome research. Past winners of the award include Jane Goodall, Walter Cronkite and David Attenborough.
