Jennifer Stempel’s first children’s picture book, “With a Needle and Thread: A Jewish Folktale from Cuba,” will debut in October.
The book is available for pre-order from major retailers (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.). It tells the story of Romi and her grandmother in a small Jewish community in Santiago de Cuba, where an outgrown dress is creatively repurposed into a blanket, a tallit, a wedding chuppah and a symbol of community celebration. Stempel drew from her personal experiences visiting family and friends, and stories shared with her from generations past.
Stempel is a member of United Hebrew Congregation.
