JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two Palestinians were arrested on Israel’s Route 5 for allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack.

Israeli security forces stopped the car at a checkpoint near Ariel on Route 5, which runs from the West Bank to the suburbs of Tel Aviv, after seeing suspicious objects in the car.

A gas tank and an explosive charge were found in a bag in the car, according to reports. A bomb disposal team was called to the scene, according to Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

The driver said in an initial interrogation that he was on the way to carry out a terrorist attack, according to Haaretz.

The driver and his passenger are from the West Bank city of Tulkarem, Israel’s Channel 2 reported.
