JERUSALEM (JTA) — A West Bank Palestinian man has been indicted for attempted murder for a stabbing attack in northern Israel.
Tarak Yahya, 20, was charged in Nazareth District Court on Monday in the Oct. 8 stabbing of a soldier and a civilian in Afula. Civilian bystanders restrained him following the attack and held him until police arrived. He had to be protected from civilians who tried to attack him.
Yahya told police he bought a knife and went to Afula to stab Jews after seeing a call on social media for attacks on Jews, the Times of Israel reported.
The indictment also identified an accomplice, a resident of the Arab-Israeli town of Umm al-Fahm, who drove Yahya to Afula.
