U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem issues 9/11 security warning

JERUSALEM (JTA) — American citizens in Israel should exercise caution on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem said in a security message.

The message, released on Monday, Sept. 10, was sent by e-mail to Americans living in Israel who are registered with the consulate or the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv.

“We recommend you review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. You should maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities,” the message said.

The consulate also has limited official travel by U.S. government employees to the West Bank on Sept. 11, according to the message, with the exception of travel to Bethlehem and Jericho.

Keren Kayemet Leisrael-Jewish National Fund will hold its 12th annual 9/11 memorial ceremony together with the U.S. Embassy at the 9/11 Living Memorial in the Arazim Valley near Jerusalem. The memorial, erected in 2009, is the largest memorial site commemorating the 9/11 terror victims outside of the United States.
