Two mortars hit southern Israel; IDF boosts defenses near Sinai

(JTA) — Two mortars from Gaza hit the Eshkol Regional Council, a southern Israeli district.
The mortars, according to Ynet News, were likely fired by a terror group against the wishes of Hamas, the terrorist organization that governs Gaza.
The mortars landed in open areas, and no damage or injuries were reported.
Israel and Hamas last engaged in conflict in November 2012, when Israel launched Operation Pillar of Defense in response to increased rocket fire from Gaza. The operation ended in a ceasefire, and since then the border has been mostly quiet. Earlier this year, three mortars were fired at Israel from Gaza. In response, the Israel Defense Forces struck two Gaza targets.
