Temple Mount closed after altercation between Muslim, Jewish women

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jerusalem Police closed the Temple Mount Plaza after a group of Muslim women confronted Jewish women visiting to the site.

The Muslim women, blocked the Jewish women from visiting the site Wednesday morning by surrounding them and shouting at them.

Police intervened and dispersed the women, who returned shortly thereafter, bringing male Muslim worshippers from the Al-Aksa Mosque with them, who began to demonstrate against the police, according to reports.

After dispersing the second group, the police closed the area to visitors. The site was scheduled to reopen later in the day.

It is the second time this week that the Temple Mount was closed to visitors. Muslim women on Sunday blocked and demonstrated against Jewish visitors to the site on Sunday, leading to its closure out of fear of violence.

On Monday, Moshe Feiglin, a Knesset member from the Likud party, was prevented from entering the Dome of the Rock and then removed from the Temple Mount.
