Tel Aviv brothel ordered shut after worker commits suicide

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel Police ordered a Tel Aviv brothel closed, more than a week after one of its workers committed suicide.

The brothel located in a residential neighborhood was ordered closed on Sunday.

Police told Israeli media that the closure order came after complaints by neighbors.

The woman, 36, hanged herself in an apartment located above the brothel, where she lived with several other workers. One of her colleagues said that the woman, identified as J, had been depressed in recent weeks and had turned to drugs and alchohol. She had been working as a prostitute for 15 years, the Hebrew-language news website Walla reported.

While prostitution is legal in Israel, running a brothel is not.
