Teens arrested for harrassing, spitting on Arab woman

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Three teenage boys from northern Israel were arrested for harassing an Arab woman, including spitting on her.
The teens from Nazareth Illit on Saturday night confessed to harassment of the 60-year-old woman in which they told her to leave “the Jewish neighborhood.” The boys apologized for their actions. In exchange for their release, the teens agreed to participate in community service by speaking to other teens about racism and tolerance.
Two other teenagers turned themselves in to Jerusalem Police Saturday night, following their confessions of involvement in threatening and Arab woman and a Jewish woman attending the shiva of their boss in Jerusalem.
The women teach together at a school in Ramat Hasharon in the center of Israel; they were visiting their principal, who was sitting shiva last week in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem.
The teens spit and shouted racial slurs at the women, and threw things at them as well as at the car, smashing the back window. They also slashed the tires of the car.
A third teen captured last week for involvement in the incident is under house arrest.
