Swastikas painted on Polish synagogue

WARSAW — Four large swastikas and SS symbols were painted on the entrance to a synagogue in Lodz, Poland.

The swastikas, which were discovered on Tuesday, were removed the following day. Police are investigating the vandalism.

The vandalism at Reicher Synagogue, one of two synagogues still in use in the city, was first noticed by tourists visiting Lodz.

“This graffiti is a terrible showcase of our city,” Symcha Keller, chairman of the Jewish Community of Lodz, told JTA.

This is not the first such case in Lodz. In 1998, swastikas and Stars of David on gallows were painted on the synagogue.
