(JTA) — Six Egyptians were killed and 11 injured in attacks in the Sinai Peninsula near the Israeli border.
Two civilians, two police officers and two military officers were killed in 10 attacks by militant groups between the northern Sinai cities of Rafah and El-Arish, according to Reuters. The attacks targeted police stations and military and security checkpoints.
Since the ouster of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi earlier this month, violence has risen in the Sinai, which has become a haven for terrorist groups in recent years. The Egyptian military has increased its troop presence in the Sinai after taking control of the government from Morsi.
Twenty people have been killed in the Sinai this month.
