Sheldon Adelson cracks Forbes’ top ten billionaires list

(JTA) — American Jewish casino mogul Sheldon Adelson ranked among the world’s top ten billionaires, according to an annual list published by Forbes magazine.

Adelson, founder of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and a major donor to Jewish, pro-Israel and Republican causes, was worth $38 billion in 2013 according to Forbes, an increase of $11.5 billion over 2012. He ranked eighth on this year’s list, the first time he has cracked Forbes’ top ten billionaires since 2007.

Larry Ellison, founder of software company Oracle, was the wealthiest Jewish person on the list, ranking fifth with $48 billion. Microsoft founder Bill Gates topped the list at $76 billion.

Forbes noted that Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, doubled his net worth last year, from $13.3 billion to $28.5 billion.
