Saul Singer featured at Argentina seminar on innovative Israeli technology

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (JTA) —  The Argentinian government hosted a seminar about innovative technology in Israel.

Saul Singer, co-author with Dan Senor of the best-selling book “Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle,” was featured at Monday’s event in Buenos Aires.

Singer focused on the Israeli innovative entrepreneurship environment and the work that Israel can do with researchers and companies around the world.

“We combine people with different skills in companies and in the global workforce, but we don’t have the ability yet to combine countries,” he said. “So the best thing that Israel and Argentina can do together is to work together, combine the strengths of very different countries like we do with people.”

It was Singer’s first scheduled presentation as part of a three-day tour in Argentina, after which he is scheduled to travel to Colombia and Panama to discuss Israeli innovation success.

Fernando Peirano, undersecretary of policy for Argentina’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, said at the opening of the program that “Looking to the Israeli experience is very timely to Argentina now, as we try to reinforce our science and technology focus. We are different from Israel, but we have also some similarities. We in Argentina have made achievements in human resources, so the support of innovative start-ups is very important to us.”

Dorit Shavit, making one of her first public appearances as Israeli ambassador in Argentina, spoke to open the program.

The event is being hosted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation; the Israeli Embassy in Argentina; Friends of Tel Aviv University in Argentina; and the Argentine Council for Science and Technology.
