JERUSALEM (JTA) — Three rockets fired from Lebanon landed in northern Israel.

The rockets reportedly landed in areas of the Western Galilee on Sunday evening, the Israel Defense Forces said. Code Red sirens sounded in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya and other surrounding northern Israeli communities prior to the strikes.

The rockets are believed to have landed in open areas.

The rockets came hours after reports that Lebanese Hezbollah leader Samir Kuntar, who was held for nearly three decades in an Israeli prison, was killed early Sunday morning in an Israeli airstrike in Damascus. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied the attack. Earlier on Sunday, Hezbollah said it would respond to the assassination.

Lebanese media reported that four rockets were fired at Israel. One likely landed in the sea.
