CLEVELAND (JTA) — The Republican convention elected Donald Trump its nominee for president.

The 89 delegate votes Trump, a developer and reality TV star, garnered in his home state of New York pushed him over the 1,237 he needed to secure the nomination.

His son, Donald Trump Jr., announced the delegates, launching cheers on Tuesday evening throughout the Quicken Loans sports arena in Cleveland, where the nominating convention is underway.

“Congratulations, Dad, we love you!: he said, surrounded by Trump’s other adult children, Eric, Tiffany and Ivanka, who is a convert to Orthodox Judaism.

Trump has been the presumptive nominee since early in May, when he won Indiana.

Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, is set to be formally nominated in Philadelphia next week.
