Report: American Jew arrested with unlicensed gun in Poland

(JTA) – An American Jew who opened a museum for his father in Poland is under arrest there for alleged illegal possession of weapons.

Shalom Goldberg, who earlier this year opened in Krakow the small museum I Remember for the works of his painter father Chaim Goldberg, is under house arrest as prosecutors are preparing to charge him for the unlicensed possession of the firearm and ammunition, the Fakt daily on Friday reported.

The report said neither what kind of firearm Shalom Goldberg is accused of possessing nor whether he admitted to the allegation.

The museum, which generated considerable media attention when it opened, has since been shuttered, possibly in connection with the founder’s legal troubles, Fakt reported. It was located in Krakow’s touristic old Jewish quarter, Kazimierz.

Chaim Goldberg’s colorful paintings dealt with various aspects of Jewish shtetls in Poland, ranging from the residents’ struggle to earn a living to the architecture of the homes they built.
