(JTA) — A New York rabbi was arrested or arraigned three times for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
While driving in recent months, Rabbi Alfredo Borodowski has flashed a fake badge and tried to pull fellow motorists over for driving too slowly or cutting him off, according to the Associated Press. Borodowski formerly held a position at Temple Emanu-El in New York City and is now the rabbi at a Congregation Sulam Yaakov in Larchmont, N.Y.
After the rabbi’s first arrest, police received additional accounts of Borodowski impersonating a policeman. He has been charged with a misdemeanor of criminal impersonation.
The first instance of Borodowski’s police impersonation came in April, and was caught on video. Subsequent instances took place in May and June.
Borodowski’s lawyer says that he suffers from bipolar disorder.
