Palestinian taxi driver attempts to run over Border Guard

JERUSALEM (IJTA) — A Palestinian taxi driver from eastern Jerusalem was shot in the leg while trying to run over a Border Guard officer.

The driver, a resident of the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem, reportedly tried to enter in his vehicle a police station compound in eastern Jerusalem, hitting a supply car attempting to leave the station. When a Border Officer stationed at the gate approached the car to speak to the driver, the driver attempted to run over the guard.

Israel Police officers opened fire on the taxi, wounding the Palestinian driver in the leg.  The guard was also injured. Both men were taken to a Jerusalem hospital.

Police believe the incident was nationalistically motivated; Jerusalem law enforcement knew the driver.

The driver reportedly told police after the incident:  “I lost my mind. I wanted to drive into the station.”
