JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers as he tried to enter Israel illegally by breaking through the security fence.
The man, identified by the Palestinian Ma’an news agency as Uday Kamil Muhammad Darwish, 21, attempted to enter Israel on Saturday in an area south of Hebron.
Darwish worked in Israel but did not have a permit to allow him to enter legally, according to Ma’an.
Israeli soldiers opened fire after Darwish breached the fence. A military spokesman said the soldiers “followed the rules of engagement and fired toward his legs.”
A 22-year-old Palestinian man from Gaza had been killed a day earlier as he attempted to cut through the security fence, according to Haaretz.
