JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian man who participated in a protest at the Gaza-Israel border died a day after being wounded by Israeli gunfire.
The 21-year-old who died Saturday was one of six Palestinians wounded when Israeli troops opened fire on the demonstrators near Rafah. The Israel Defense Forces said the demonstrators were trying to break through the border fence and soldiers fired warning shots into the crowd.
Hamas officials filed a complaint with Egypt, which brokered a cease-fire deal on Nov. 21 with Israel and Hamas after Israel launched Operation Pillar of Defense in response to escalated rocket fire on southern Israel from Gaza.
