(JTA) — A Palestinian child was killed in an explosion near Gaza. Shortly thereafter, an Israeli security guard was stabbed and critically wounded near Jerusalem in an unrelated incident.

Suhayb Saqir, 5, was killed Thursday night and his brother Musab, 6, was seriously injured in an explosion caused by ordnance they found in the Jabaliya area North of Gaza City, the Ma’an news agency reported. The report did not say whether the ordnance was Israeli or ammunition belonging to Hamas.

Over 7,000 unexploded ordnance were left throughout the Gaza Strip following the 2014 round of hostilities between Israel and Palestinian militant groups, according to officials of the U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories.

Several hours after that incident, an Israeli security guard was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in a settlement near Jerusalem, allegedly by a Palestinian working at the shopping mall where the victim works.

The victim, 47, suffered a major loss of blood in the attack late at night late Thursday night at a shopping mall in Ma’ale Adumim, Army Radio reported.

The suspected perpetrator fled the scene and security forces are searching for him in the area, the report said. Ma’ale Adumim Mayor Benny Kashriel told Army Radio the assailant worked at the shopping mall where the victim worked and was thus able to enter it armed.
