(JTA) — The Cleveland-based Mandel Foundation has awarded more than $13 million to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

The gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation includes a $10 million capital grant to construct the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Institute for Social Leadership building, and $3.1 million to establish the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Honors Program in Social Leadership, which will be housed in the new building, the university announced on Tuesday.

The 40,000 square foot building, designed by Plesner Architects of Tel Aviv, will house classrooms, studios, offices, auditoriums, and research facilities,

“This gift represents our desire to support Ben-Gurion University, the city of Beersheba, and the advancement of social leadership in Israel,” Morton Mandel, foundation chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

The foundation has had a long-standing relationship with Ben-Gurion University.

The Mandel Honors Program in Social Leadership is designed to teach business and management students relevant business administration, social responsibility and social leadership skills.
