(JTA) — Lena Dunham is standing up for Jewish comic Amy Schumer after Schumer criticized Glamour magazine for including her in its plus-size issue without her approval.

“I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women,” Schumer posted Wednesday on Instagram. “Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me.”

Dunham, who also is Jewish, offered her perspective to People magazine at The Hollywood Reporter’s 35 Most Powerful People event on Wednesday in New York, where she was honored.

“I think fashion should be for women and it should be for all women. I think Amy’s entire thing is trying to sort of like break down barriers and be bold about her own opinions,” the “Girls” star said. “And what I think she was trying to do was stand up for women and say we’re not supposed be categorized in this role, we’re supposed to just be allowed to exist.”

Dunham has discussed her body issues in the past.

Glamour apologized in a statement sent to People.

“First off, we love Amy, and our readers do too – which is why we featured her on the cover of Glamour last year,” the statement said. “The cover line on this special edition – which is aimed at women size 12 and up – simply says “Women Who Inspire Us,” since we believe her passionate and vocal message of body positivity IS inspiring, as is the message of the many other women, of all sizes, featured. The edition did not describe her as plus-size. We are sorry if we offended her in any way.”
