(JTA) — Indian troops quelling a demonstration against Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip shot dead a Kashmiri teenager.

Suhail Ahmad Lone, 14, was killed Saturday in Khudwani, a village south of Srinagar, the main city in Indian Kashmir, The Associated Press reported, citing a police officer. Witnesses said troops from the CRPF, the largest of India’s Central Armed Police Forces, opened fire with bullets and tear gas, and used batons to disperse the demonstrators.

Police said the teen was throwing rocks at law enforcement personnel.

Law enforcement has opened an investigation into the teen’s death, according to the Xinhau news agency.

Hundreds participated in Lone’s funeral, during which they also protested the firing on demonstrations.
