(JTA) — A jug with an inscription dating back 3,000 years to the time of the biblical King David was unearthed in Jerusalem.
It is the oldest artifact with letters ever found in Jerusalem, according to the Times of Israel.Archaeologists, however, cannot read the inscription because only a few letters remain.
Hebrew University archaeologist Eilat Mazar, who led the dig, said the Canaanite text may name the owner, contents or intended destination of the jug.
The jug was found at the Southern Wall, an archaeological park adjacent to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
