John Zorn to premiere part three of his Masada project

Composer John Zorn will debut “John Zorn’s Masada Book Three: The Book Beriah” in concert this spring, the New York Times reports. While the pieces that make up the klezmer-inspired project were composed in 2009, this will be the first time any of them will be performed in public.
Fans of his work, which ranges from jazz to surf to classical to basically whatever genre you can think of, as Zorn’s work is nothing if not diverse, will likely be excited. It’s been ten long years since the project’s last installment, “Masada Book Two: The Book of Angels” was released.
The concert, part of the first Newish Jewish Music Festival, will take place March 19 at New York City’s Town Hall. More details, from the Times: It will feature “roughly 20 ensembles, including the Masada String Trio, the Jamie Saft Trio, Fieldwork and Secret Chiefs 3. Mr. Zorn is scheduled to perform on alto saxophone with Aleph Trio, which includes Shanir Blumenkranz on bass and Ches Smith on drums. Tickets will be available on Monday through Ticketmaster and the Town Hall box office.”
