JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Border Police shot and killed a member of the terrorist group Hamas during a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp in West Bank.

The Palestinian man was killed as he attempted to throw an explosive at the Israeli troops, a spokesman for the Border Police told Israeli and international media.

The Palestinian Maan news agency identified the man as Izz al-Din Walid Bani Gharra, 21.  He was shot in the chest and died at a local hospital, according to the report.

Reuters reported that the man was shot in the back, citing Jenin residents and hospital officials.  A Hamas website reported that he was killed while coming out of a mosque after prayers, according to Reuters.

It is the first deadly shooting in the West Bank in two months.
