JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli military shot at Palestinians gathered at a Gaza border crossing.

Three Palestinians were injured in the Sunday afternoon incident, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported. They were part of a group of demonstrators who marched to the border fence to protest Israel’s control of the border crossings while calling for reconstruction of Gaza following Israel’s operation there this summer.

The protesters threw rocks at Israeli troops and rioted violently, the Israel Defense Forces spokesman’s office told Israeli media. They troops fired at the protesters’ legs to disperse the riots, according to the IDF spokesman’s office.

The IDF closed the Erez border crossing with Gaza indefinitely following the incident.

Rallies took place Sunday across Gaza calling for an immediate start to reconstruction.
