JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli soldiers shot a handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian teenager as he attempted to escape.

The teen, who was being detained for throwing rocks at soldiers and cars, was shot in the groin on Thursday near the Palestinian village of Tuku, next to the Israeli settlement of Tekoa in the West Bank.

He at first was prevented from being evacuated to a hospital due to clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians at the scene. The teen was then released, however, for treatment at a clinic in Beit Jala, near Bethlehem, and did not remain under Israeli military supervision, Haaretz reported.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed to Haaretz that the incident took place and said it will be investigated further.
