Israeli reaches World Series of Poker finals, guaranteed $1M

(JTA) — An Israeli has advanced to the final table of the World Series of Poker and is guaranteed to win at least $1 million.
Zvi Stern, 36, and eight others from around the world beat out 6,411 other competitors in several days of playing no-limit Texas Hold’em in Las Vegas, The Associated Press reported.

They advanced to the tournament’s main event in November, where the champion will win $7.7 million and a gold bracelet.
Stern, of Herzliya, has $49,595 in casino earnings, according to CardPlayer.com. In January, he won $44,540 at the $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em Eight Max EPT Season XI-PCA, and in 2008, he picked up $5,055 at the World Series of Poker.
