(JTA) — Two Jews suspected of committing “price tag” attacks against Arab-Israelis and Palestinians were arrested.
The suspects, males aged 16 and 25, were arrested Tuesday and accused of involvement in several recent attacks on Arab property in the northern Israeli city of Yokneam, the Times of Israel reported. They are suspected of spray-painting anti-Arab slogans and slashing car tires.
Also Tuesday, police arrested four people in Jerusalem on suspicion of attacking an Arab shop owner, according to Israel’s Channel 2. The four allegedly are part of a ring of Jewish extremists who coordinate their activities via the messaging application WhatsApp.
Last week, police arrested two other suspects from northern Israel, aged 16 and 26, in connection with the Yokneam attacks. Both are expected to remain in police custody until Thursday.
“Price tag” is a term for vandalism and other crimes carried out by Jewish ultranationalists ostensibly to retaliate against the government for policies against settlers. Israeli leaders across the political spectrum have condemned the attacks.
