JERUSALEM (JTA) — At least 12 rockets fired from Gaza struck Israel over the weekend including two that hit a factory in Sderot, causing it to catch fire and burn to the ground.

In response to the six rockets that struck Israel on Saturday night, the Israel Air Force bombed three of what the Israel Defense Forces identified as “terror activity sites” and three concealed rocket launchers in the southern Gaza Strip; a weapon manufacturing site in the northern Gaza Strip; and a “terror activity site” and weapon manufacturing site in the central Gaza Strip early on Sunday morning.

The Air Force also struck other Gaza targets on Saturday morning and afternoon, according to the IDF.

“Over the weekend, the IDF attacked multiple targets in response to firing at Israel from the Gaza Strip,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday morning at the regular Cabinet meeting. “We are ready to expand this operation as per need. I would like to reiterate that from the moment the Palestinian unity government was established with the Hamas terrorist organization, the Palestinian Authority became responsible for preventing firing at our territory from the Gaza Strip.”
He also called again on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to end its unity agreement with Hamas.

Several people were evacuated from the bombed-out factory in Sderot after it caught fire, including two who required hospital treatment for burns.

Since the beginning of June more than 60 rockets have been launched from Gaza at Israel, with 28 of them hitting southern Israel. The Iron Dome anti-missile system has intercepted at least 7 rockets heading for populated Israeli areas.

“The aggression originating from Gaza is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement. ” Gaza terrorist organizations will bear the consequences of their aggression. The IDF will continue to utilize the entire scope of its intelligence and operational capabilities in order to combat the aggression and safeguard the civilians of the State of Israel.”
