JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli lawyer hired by the daughter of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has asked the the International Criminal Court to investigate the circumstances of the late ruler’s death.
Aisha Gadhafi left Libya in August, before her father was reportedly tortured and killed after being uncovered by opposition rebel forces.
Nick Kaufman, an international lawyer in Jerusalem and a former senior prosecutor at the international court, last month petitioned International Criminal Court prosecutor Jose Luis Moreno Ocampo to investigate Gadhafi’s death.
”The images of this savagery were broadcast throughout the world, causing my client severe emotional distress,” Kaufman wrote in the request.
Gadhafi never recognized the state of Israel. It has been rumored that he had a Jewish grandmother.
