Israeli judo star loses out on Olympic medal

(JTA) — Israeli Sagi Muki failed to medal in the judo under-73 kg weight class after advancing to the semifinals at the Rio Olympics.
Muki lost to Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili in the bronze medal fight on Monday after earlier in the day losing to Azerbaijan’s Rustam Orujov in the semifinal matchup.
Muki, the current European champion in his weight class, defeated American Nick Delpopolo in the quarterfinals earlier on Monday.
Israel, which has sent its largest delegation ever to the Rio games, has so far failed to medal.
