Israeli government minister accused of sexual offenses

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A senior Israeli government minister is under investigation after accusations that he committed sexual offenses against a female staff member some 15 years ago.

Israel’s Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein reportedly launched an investigation into the minister after receiving the complaint last week. Ynet reported that the Justice Ministry confirmed the reports. News of the complaint was reported late Sunday night and Monday.

The minister has not been named in the mainstream Israeli media.

The statute of limitations on such cases, in which the complainant was not a minor, is ten years. Weinstein could decide to prosecute the case under certain circumstances, however.

The former staff member said the sexual offense took place at a Jerusalem hotel where the minister was staying, Haaretz reported. She resigned shortly after the incident.
