(JTA) — An Israeli businessman who was active in the Jewish community of Abuja, Nigeria, died after being shot in the head while trying to flee a group of assailants.
Nir Rosmarin, 42, was killed Wednesday in an apparent kidnapping attempt, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Rosmarin, whose family still lived in Israel, worked for a construction company in Abuja.
“He was a dear friend of ours,” said Rabbi Israel Uzan, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Nigeria, a community comprised mostly of Israeli expatriates, according to Chabad.org.
The rabbi is seeking to have Rosmarin buried without an autopsy, in compliance with Jewish law.
