(JTA) — Israel’s consulate in New York City was locked down for two hours and police took a suspect into custody following reports of suspicious activity around the building.
The consulate did not provide details about the nature of the suspicious activity, but said guards first saw the suspect around 9:30 Friday morning, according to Almog Elijis, the consulate’s spokesperson. All activity at the embassy returned to normal. No one was harmed in the incident, and the suspect’s name or identity have not been made public.
Last September, the consulate also temporarily shut down after receiving a death threat against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was set to visit New York.
