Israel imposes partial closure on Ramallah

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s military has imposed a partial closure on the major West Bank Palestinian city of Ramallah.

The closure, which prevents non-residents from entering and restricts residents from leaving the city, was imposed late Sunday night, the first time that a Palestinian city has been closed since the start of the current wave of Palestinian terror in October.

The closure came hours after a Palestinian Authority Police officer from Ramallah shot and wounded three Israeli soldiers at a security checkpoint near the city.

The closure also was imposed due to security warnings for the area, Haaretz reported citing an unnamed IDF official.

Ramallah is the seat of government for the Palestinian Authority.
