Israel attacks Gaza terror infrastructure in retaliation for mortars

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Air Force fired on Gaza terrorist infrastructure in retaliation for mortars fired on Israeli soldiers near the security fence.

Mortar fire was aimed at Israeli troops operating near the Israel-Gaza security fence on Tuesday morning. No soldiers were injured or killed in the attack.

Later on Tuesday, Israeli military jets hit a weapons manufacturing facility and two tunnels designed for use in terrorist activities in southern Gaza, and a site used to launch terrorist activities in northern Gaza.

“Attempts to attack soldiers will not, by any means, be tolerated by the IDF. The IDF maintains the right to combat terrorists abusing the Gaza Strip as a springboard for such attacks against Israeli civilians and its forces,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.

Also on Tuesday, two IDF soldiers were wounded on the border with Lebanon while attempting to destroy an explosive device in a planned demolition.
