Israel among 193 countries certified for NSA monitoring

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Israel is among the vast majority of countries that the U.S. National Security Agency may monitor for information about its targets.

The Washington Post on Monday posted online a 2010 legal classification approved by a special espionage court and leaked by former NSA staffer Edward Snowden.

It lists 193 countries and entities, including Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and a number of international umbrella bodies that the NSA may monitor for information about targets of U.S. intelligence.

The only exceptions are Britain, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, countries with which the United States has no-spying agreements.
